People's artist of the UASSR, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, People's Artist of the RSFSR

Painter. He was born on March 1, 1925 in the village of Molchany, Votkinsk district, Udmurt Republic. After graduating from the seven-year school he worked as a lumberjack like his father, a loader, a stoker, dreamed of entering the theater and decoration school in Izhevsk. In 1943 he was drafted into the army, fought in the Far East, received awards. Demobilized in 1947 and entered the Palekh Art School, where his teacher was A.M.Korin, brother of the famous painter P.L.Korin. A year later he transferred to Kazan Art School, graduated in 1951 and returned to Izhevsk as a professional artist, worked in the production cooperative partnership of workers of fine arts, "Udmurtkhudozhudozhnik". In 1952 for the first time took part in the exhibition of works of artists of the Udmurt branch of the Union of Artists and "Udmurtkhudozhudozhnik". In 1953 Kholmogorov entered the Moscow State Institute named after V.I.Surikov, studied under Professor V.G.Tsyplakov. After graduation in 1959 he returned to Izhevsk. In the same year the local pedagogical institute opened an art and graphic arts faculty. Kholmogorov became one of the first teachers of the Faculty, invited colleagues from other cities, organized the admission of students and the educational process. In the same year he participated in the first exhibition "Soviet Russia", where he exhibited one of his most famous works "Young Udmurt Mother", which is now kept in the funds of the URMII. Intense creative activity and active civic position of the following years were marked by the awarding of the title of People's Artist of the UASSR (1967), Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1972), People's Artist of the RSFSR (1981). In 1970 for the cycle of paintings "People of my Republic" he became a laureate of the State Prize of the UASSR. In 1981 for the cycle of portraits "Women of Udmurtia" and the painting "Consilium" he was awarded the silver medal of the Academy of Arts of the USSR and the State Prize of the RSFSR named after I.E.Repin. In 1962-1965 two of his works are kept in the Tretyakov Gallery: "Portrait of Zoya Mikhailova" and "Victory Day. Village Veterans." Kholmogorov was chairman of the board of the Udmurt branch of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR, in 1972 he was elected secretary of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR. He died on September 30, 1987 in Izhevsk.
