Elena Egorova

Lena lives in Votkinsk, in a boarding school. A severe form of cerebral palsy prevents her hands from working. But Lena has learned to draw with her foot. Elena's paintings include flowers, kind animals and fish.

"I was born in Udmurtia, in the village of Verkhny Lyuk, Zavyalovsky district. In a large family with three sons and two daughters besides me. Until I was five years old, I did not walk or talk. My childhood is difficult to call happy, I was offended, I was not friends. I stayed at home all the time.
Newspapers and magazines came to us. My father and mother would read them and give them to me. I'd trace the letters and draw them. That's how I learned to draw with my left foot. Then my mother started practicing with me. I learned all the letters and numbers.
Later my parents hired a teacher from the school, she came once a week. So I studied for four years. In 1985 my mother died and I went to Penza region, to the city of Nizhny Lomov, to a boarding school for the disabled. I studied easily and was an example in the class. It was a good time. I also began to write poems, first on a piece of paper, and then print on a laptop.

It's morning again,
Good day is coming to our house.

I know You're always there for me."

Lena's drawings were presented at an exhibition in Penza. Today she draws a lot, for her it is not only a hobby, but also a way to earn money.
